How are Universities using AI?

AI has been transforming almost all aspects of different industries and sometimes is even more effective than humans while performing tasks. AI is simply the future and therefore it makes sense for universities to adopt the same as it will equip students to use the technology of their research. AI also helps in building a personalized and effective learning process for each student depending on their capability to cope with pressure and download content. This will assist the student to be fully prepared of their academic career.

After looking at the growth spurt of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it is clear that AI technology is the future. AI has triumphed over several times, the most famous one when an AI-power beat the chess world champion. It changed the way people perceive AI and is seeping into our lives in ever more profound ways. AI is instilled in a lot of aspects in one’s life, whether it is how one searches the web, receives medical advice, or whether we receive finance from our banks.  DeepMind, Magic Pony, Aysadi, Wolfram Alpha, and Improbable are responsible for bringing out different AI technologies and have their origins in universities. It is only logical to believe that AI will also be integrated into universities. AI can be used in scientific infrastructure for research and be applied to learning with universities taking the lead lest they become increasingly irrelevant and eventually redundant. There is some hesitation when it comes to integrating AI as the universities fear they would no longer be needed How they respond to this AI revolution will profoundly reshape science, innovation, education – and society itself. Deep mind was created via three scientists, of whom met whilst operating at university college London. Demis Hassabis, one of Deep mind’s founders, who has a Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience from UCL and has undertaken postdoctoral studies at MIT and Harvard, is one of many scientists convinced that AI and machine learning will enhance the method of scientific discovery. It is already eight years since scientists at the college of Aberystwyth created a robot system that executed a wholly scientific procedure on its very own: formulating hypotheses, designing and running experiments, reading the information, and determining which experiments to run next.

How AI can revolutionize Universities

Personalized learning

Universities have integrated AI algorithms to personalize learning and deliver content that adheres to the students’ needs and pace of learning which brings out the more effective outcome. This idea is based on the fact different individuals have different aptitudes, skills, and orientations to learn therefore when exposed to the same content and learning environments, the pace of understanding content differs for everybody. When a university provides this course of personalized, adaptive learning they acknowledge that the diversity that is part of any learning ecosystem.

Learning is beyond the classroom

As we move towards educational AI development, students will have the opportunity to study where they want, when they want, and use whatever platform they want. The delivery method would change and studies will adapt to tablets and mobile phones. Universities have already integrated AI-enabled smart building concepts to redesign learning spaces. These smart classroom spaces are usually stocked with circular tables, laptops, flat-screen monitors, multiple projectors, and whiteboards to provide an unrestricted platform for collaborative and engaged active learning. This assists educators to go from a traditional classroom set-up to a more interactive style of working which instills deeper learning approaches.

Introducing the smart campus

The technology implemented is quite simple at its core, it is all about connecting devices across different platforms on the internet and letting them talk to us, as well as each other. Smart classrooms are also expected to improve the learning experience of the students. A classroom connected to the Internet can adapt to personalized settings to prep the classroom for different types of faculty members. It easily assists in monitoring attendance and invigilating exams.

Conclusion

As discussed before, AI has been transforming almost all aspects of different industries and sometimes is even more effective than humans while performing tasks. AI is simply the future and therefore it makes sense for universities to adopt the same as it will equip students to use the technology of their research. AI also helps in building a personalized and effective learning process for each student depending on their capability to cope with pressure and download content. This will assist the student to be fully prepared of their academic career.
